Steel grating, also known as steel grating, is an open steel component made by orthogonally combining load-bearing flat steel and cross bars at certain intervals and fixing them by welding or pressing. It features high strength, ventilation and light transmission, anti-slip and wear resistance, and is widely used in industry, construction, transportation and other fields. It is an indispensable key material in modern engineering construction.

Structural Composition and Production Process

Structural composition

The core structure of steel grating includes load-bearing flat steel and cross bars. Load-bearing flat steel is the main load-bearing component. Usually, flat steel (with a rectangular cross-section) is adopted. Its width and thickness are determined according to the load-bearing requirements of the steel grating. Common specifications include 20mm×3mm, 30mm×5mm, 40mm×6mm, etc. The length is customized according to the actual dimensions of the project. The crossbars mainly serve to connect and fix the load-bearing flat steel, ensuring the overall stability of the steel grating. They are mostly made of twisted square steel, round steel or flat steel, which are arranged in a cross pattern with the load-bearing flat steel at certain intervals (usually 100mm, 50mm). ​

Production process

Welding process: This is the most commonly used production method. Through automated welding equipment, the crossbars and the load-bearing flat steel are welded and fixed at the intersection points to form a solid grid structure. Steel grating produced by welding process has strong integrity and high strength, and is suitable for most load-bearing scenarios. According to the different welding methods, it can be divided into pressure-welded steel grating (where the crossbars are pressed into the load-bearing flat steel and welded) and hand-welded steel grating (manually welded, suitable for special specifications or small-batch production). ​

Pressing and locking process: Special equipment is used to mechanically press and lock the crossbar (mostly twisted square steel) and the load-bearing flat steel together without welding. The connection is achieved through the plastic deformation of the metal. The steel grating produced by the pressing and locking process has no welding scars on the surface, a neater appearance, and a tight connection between the crossbars and the flat steel. It is suitable for scenarios with high appearance requirements or where welding is not suitable (such as stainless steel grating).
